About Us

Dr. Jay T. Kanegawa is a second-generation dentist practicing at Aiea’s first dental practice established in 1954 by his father. As a graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry, Dr. Kanegawa is proud to be continuing a family tradition of providing gentle, family-oriented dental care.

Dr. Kanegawa was born and raised in Hawaii. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at Troop 147 in Alvah Scott Elementary School. He is a graduate of Hanahauoli School, Punahou School, Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and Temple University Dental School. He comes from a long line of dentists. Most notably: 

• Dr Howard K. Maesaka was Hawaii’s first graduate of Indiana University and started Wahiawa’s first dental practice and mentored a number of dental school graduates from Temple University and Indiana University.
• Dr Gilbert T Kanegawa extablished Aiea’s first dental practice.
• Dr Ray K Maesaka taught at Indiana Dental School for over 40 years and received an excellence in teaching award from Indiana University.

Dr. Kanegawa has served on the boards of the following organizations: Association of Hanahauoli Alumni (former President), Punahou Alumni Association, Hawaii Dental Service (Delta Dental) (former Chairman of the Board), The New Dentist Committee of Hawaii Dental Association (former Chair). The Health Committee of Hawaii Dental Association (former Chair), and Kick Start Hawaii. 

Dr. Kanegawa has a number of interests. He is a big foodie and worked at Williams Sonoma for over 14 and a half years. He rides his Peloton bike religiously, is a devoted father and husband and proud owner of a demanding but cute Tibetan Terrier.
